David Mannino, MD, is the Chief Medical Officer at the COPD Foundation. He has a long history of research and engagement in respiratory health, including over 15 years of service at both the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the University of Kentucky, where he focused on Asthma and COPD. Dr. Mannino has over 350 publications and serves as an Associate Editor or Editorial Board member for the following journals: American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, Chest, Thorax, and the Journal of the COPD Foundation. He was also a coauthor of the Surgeon General’s Report on Tobacco in 2008 and 2014.

Dr. KORRAA graduated at AM Shams University, Cairo, EGYPT in 1986, with honors. After completing his Master degree in 1991, he decided to work his MD thesis in agpitoi Henri MQiu tt, 1,1niymita Paris XII in Paris where he spent there approximately 2 years.

Back in Cairo, he continued his career in Ain Shams University as assistant lecturer, lecturer and eventually, as assistant professor.

In addition to his experience in Chest medicine, Dr. KORRAA has got experience in cancer institutes and research units. He attended many national and international courses in Bronchology, his main interest.

Dr KORRAA is a moderator of Bronchoscopy workshops all over Egypt and he established many Bronchoscopy suits around Cairo.

Dr KORRAA is a member in the Egyptian Thoracic Society, the Respiratory Care Club and the Egyptian Scientific Society of Bronchology; all in Cairo. He is also a member in the American Chest colleagues.

Dr. Downey received his MD from the University of Manitoba and completed Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine at Harvard Medical School, Beth Israel and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston. He then completed clinical training in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Colorado, Denver. He undertook post-doctoral research training in Immunology in the laboratory of Dr. Peter Henson at National Jewish Health. He was appointed Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto rising through the ranks to become the Director of the Division of Respirology, Professor and Vice-Chair, Department of Medicine, and the recipient of a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Respiration Sciences. Dr. Downey returned to Colorado as Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs and Provost and Professor of Medicine, Pediatrics, and Immunology and Genomic Medicine at National Jewish Health, and Professor of Medicine and Immunology and Microbiology and Associate Dean of the School of Medicine, University of Colorado. His current research interests include innate immunity, signaling mechanisms involved in acute lung injury/ARDS, the effects of particulate matter exposure on lung health, and mechanisms and treatment of pulmonary fibrosis. His research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, and the US Department of Defense for over 30 years. Dr. Downey has >250 publications in top ranked journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, Science, Science Translational Medicine, Nature Cell Biology, the Journal of Cell Biology, the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, the Journal of Experimental Medicine, Blood, PNAS, the American Journal of Respiratory Cell and Molecular Biology, and the Journal of Immunology and his work has been cited over 23,000 times by other authors (h-index 83). Dr. Downey is a member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation, the Association of American Physicians, the American Thoracic Society, the American College of Chest Physicians, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He currently serves as the Immediate Past President of the American Thoracic Society.

Prof. Majdy Idrees

Dr. Idrees is an Adjunct Professor of Pulmonary Medicine at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada and the Head of Pulmonary Vascular Unit at PSMMC. Dr. Idrees is the founder, and the former head, of the Saudi Association for Pulmonary Hypertension. His major area of research is related to pulmonary hypertension and has more than 50 publications in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Idrees was awarded and recognized for his achievements in the field of pulmonary hypertension by the Pulmonary Vascular Research Institute, and his name was added to the “Pulmonary Hypertension Committee of Honor” chosen by the Spanish Ministry of Health.

Nicola (Nick) A. Hanania, MD, MS, is professor of medicine in the Section of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine and director of the Airways Clinical Research Center at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. He also serves on the Faculty Senate at Baylor College of Medicine. He is Chief of Section of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine at Ben Taub Hospital. He completed his medical training at the University of Jordan in Amman, Jordan, followed by a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in pulmonary medicine at the University of Toronto, Toronto, Canada. He subsequently completed a fellowship in critical care medicine at Baylor College of Medicine, where he later earned a master’s degree in clinical investigation.

As a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians, Dr. Hanania has served on the Board of Regents and as Chair of the Clinical Pulmonary, Airways Networks and Council of Networks. He also served as member of the Board of Trustees of the Chest Foundation and has been a member on several guidelines and workshop panels including the ACP/ATS/ACCP/ERS Clinical Practice guidelines on COPD and the CTS/ACCP COPD exacerbations guidelines.

Dr Hanania has received multiple awards, including the ACCP’s Distinguished Scholar in Respiratory Health, Baylor College of Medicine’s Master Clinician Award, Distinguished CHEST educator (DCE) 2017-2022, ACCP Humanitarian Award, Career Investigator Award (K23) from the National Institutes of Health, Fulbright and Jaworski’s Faculty Excellence Award for Teaching and Evaluation, the Award for Excellence in Teaching from the Department of Medicine and attending of the year of the Section of PCCM at Baylor College of Medicine. He is editor-in-chief of Respiratory Medicine and is associate editor of the journals, Current Opinion in Pulmonary Medicine (Asthma Section), and Lung. He serves on the editorial board of Therapeutic Advances in Respiratory Disease, Pulmonary Pharmacology and Therapeutics, COPD (J of COPD Foundation).

Dr Hanania’s research interests focus on the pharmacology and management of asthma and COPD. His research has been funded by NIH, ALA and industry and focuses on clinical trials investigating novel treatments. He is principal investigator for the American Lung Association Airways Clinical Research Center and COPD Gene study at Baylor College of Medicine, as well as principal investigator or co-investigator in several clinical trials in asthma and COPD. He has published more than 320 peer-reviewed papers, book chapters, editorials, and reviews on these topics. He has been invited and has lectured widely at local, regional, national, and international meetings.

Paolo Spagnolo is an Associate Professor of Respiratory Medicine and Director of the Residency Program in Respiratory Medicine at the University of Padua (Italy). He received his undergraduate training and his MD, and completed his residency in Respiratory Medicine at the University Hospital of Bari (Italy). In 2002, Dr Spagnolo joined the Interstitial Lung Disease Unit (ILDU) of the Royal Brompton Hospital (London), initially as clinical research fellow under the supervision of Professor Ron du Bois and subsequently as Honorary Consultant. In 2008, he completed his PhD at the Imperial College of London under the supervision of Professor Ron du Bois and Professor Ken Welsh, with a thesis on “Genetic predisposition to clinical phenotypes of sarcoidosis”. Between 2008 and 2013, he was a research fellow and subsequently Assistant Professor in Respiratory Medicine at the University Hospital of Modena where he joined the Centre for Rare Lung Diseases led by Professor Luca Richeldi. Since 2015, Dr Spagnolo is an Associate Professor of Respiratory Medicine at the Department of Cardiac, Thoracic, Vascular Sciences and Public Health of the University Hospital of Padua (Italy). His main research interests include ILD, mainly idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), and sarcoidosis with emphasis on genetic predisposition, prediction of disease behaviour and clinical trials of novel therapies. Dr Spagnolo is the author or co-author of over 150 journal articles, review articles and editorials. He is an Associate Editor for Chest. He is the Treasurer of the WASOG (World Association of Sarcoidosis and Other Granulomatous diseases) and Chair of the Study Group on Sarcoidosis and other Granulomatous ILD/DPLD of the European Respiratory Society. He is the chair of the European Reference Network (ERN) on rare lung diseases of the University Hospital of Padova (Italy).

Dr Rami Alfarra is a principal scientist at Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI), Hamad bin Khalifa University (HBKU). He has over two decades of international experience in atmospheric aerosols and their impact on air quality, climate and human health. Dr Alfarra joined QEERI in March 2021, where he leads research on air quality with a range of interests including air quality assessment, source attribution of air pollution, health impacts of air pollution and natural dust and development of evidence-based mitigation policies. To date, Rami participated in 38 major national and international research collaborations and has 74 publications with more than 18000 citations and a current H-index of 46. Dr Alfarra received the 2008 Swiss Academy of Sciences Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics Award.

Dr Alfarra completed a PhD degree in atmospheric science at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST) in the UK in 2004. He worked as a post-doctoral scientist at the Laboratory of Atmospheric Chemistry at Paul Scherrer Institute in Switzerland from 2005 to 2008. From 2009 to 2021, he served as a scientist at UK’s National Centre for Atmospheric Science (NCAS) and fellow at the University of Manchester, UK.

Dr. Huang is a pulmonary physician-scientist and highly regarded expert on the microbiome in chronic airway diseases. Dr. Huang has led numerous clinical-translational investigations focused on asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), including multicenter studies supported by the U.S. National Institutes of Health. Her team has identified novel links between the airway microbiome, immunophenotype, and clinical outcomes in asthma and COPD, including response to corticosteroids. Dr. Ashraf Alzaabi is the Head of Respiratory Division at Zayed Military Hospital in Abu Dhabi.

He graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland 1997 and did his training in Internal medicine and Respirology for six years at the University of Toronto, Canada 2000-2006 where he was board cer􀀁ﬁed in both special􀀁es in Canada and USA.

Since his arrival to UAE he managed to develop a state of the art pa􀀁ent services in the Respiratory Medicine Division at Zayed Hospital and this included establishing the ﬁrst sleep laboratory in Abu Dhabi and the ﬁrst endoscopy center performing Endobronchial ultrasound guided biopsy procedures in UAE.

In 2007, he was appointed as a Clinical Assistant Professor in Internal Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS) at UAE University.

Ashraf Alzaabi won many dis􀀁nc􀀁on awards such as the pres􀀁gious Murray Muirhead Award (2001) from the University of Toronto during his residency program. In 2013, He won the Abu Dhabi Medical Dis􀀁nc􀀁on Award in Clinical Performance launched by the Health Authority in Abu Dhabi (HAAD).

He was appointed as the Director of Medical Educa􀀁on 2007-2010 at Zayed Military Hospital. During this period, He succeeded to get the recogni􀀁on of the Arab Board to start the ﬁrst residency training program at Zayed Hospital in Internal Medicine. He engineered a memorandum agreement between the faculty of Medicine at UAE University and Zayed Hospital. The signing of this agreement recognized Zayed Hospital as a training hospital for the medical students and residents during their undergraduate and postgraduate studies.

In 2010, He finished a two year program at Zayed University doing an Execu􀀁ve Master in Health Care Administra􀀁on. This helped during his posts at many important administratve positions both at Zayed Military Hospital and at other na􀀁onal organizations. He is a member of the Medical Executve Council (MEC) at Zayed Military Hospital which responsibilities include se􀀂ng short and long term strategic goals for the ins􀀁tu􀀁on. He served as the Chair of the Internal Medicine Examination Committee at the Health Authority of Abu Dhabi for the term 2010-2014.

Medical research and academic work has always been of great interest to him. He is an editor at the "CHEST" journal , middle east edition. He published the first UAE prevalence study on chronic obstruc􀀁ve pulmonary disease at the Respiratory Medicine Journal in 2011. His main interest in research includes Asthma, COPD and Sleep Medicine.

For many years Dr. Salih worked as Director of Denmark’s National Respiratory Fellowship Program under the Danish Respiratory Society and Danish Health Board, likewise Clinical Educational Leader at Zealand’s University Hospital, Roskilde, member of the National Respiratory Scientific Board and also in Region East. He was also Head of Department of respiratory diseases and Allergy at Odense University Hospital, Fyn Island, Second biggest tertiary centers in Denmark and one of the biggest in Europe.

After Moving to UAE in May 2021, he worked as Consultant Pulmonologist at American Hospital Dubai.

In February 2022 he joined the Department of Pulmonary, Sleep and Allergic diseases at Rashid Hospital, Dubai Academic Health Corporation ( DAHC) as Consultant Pulmonologist, where he is currently director of interventional pulmonology, interstitial lung diseases clinic, and Adult Respiratory Fellowship under The Saudi Commission of Health Specialties (SCFHS) . Dr. Hani Sabbour

Hani M. Sabbour is currently Consultant Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi and also former Internal Medicine Residency Program Director at Al Ain Hospital, Al Ain, United Arab Emirates. He served as Director of Cardiac Arrhythmia and Electrophysiology at Landmark Medical Center in Rhode Island USA from 2003 until 2012. Since January 2013, he has held an academic appointment as Clinical Assistant Professor Cardiovascular Disease at Warren Alpert School of Medicine, Brown University. He established a comprehensive Pulmonary Hypertension Center and PH registry at SKMC as well as leading the SEHA PH guideline writing team to complete the SEHA clinical practice guidelines in PAH.

Dr Sabbour received his medical training at the Faculty of Medicine, Kuwait University, culminating in a medical doctorate in 1994 and awarded His Highness the Emir's Gold Medal with First Class Honors. He completed residencies at Kuwait Institute for Medical Specializations and SUNY Stony Brook – East Meadow Campus in 1995 and 1998, respectively. He was also Clinical and Research Fellow in clinical cardiac electrophysiology at Massachusetts General Hospital – Harvard Medical School, where he received ABIM Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology Certification in 2003. He is ABIM certified in Internal medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, Cardiac Electrophysiology, Advanced Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplant, ECHO and Nuclear Cardiology. Dr Sabbour has been involved in multiple clinical trials; his extensive research on cardiovascular diseases has been published in a number of multi-center clinical trials and publications. His clinical interests include integrated device therapy and CHF, correlative cardiac imaging, nuclear cardiology, arrhythmia management particularly atrial fibrillation, management of valvular heart disease, drug monitoring and management program and particularly Pulmonary Hypertension Dr. Sabbour is currently a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, Heart Rhythm Society and the American College of Physicians, and Egyptian American Medical Association.

I am a triple US board certified tier 1 paediatric pulmonologist and sleep medicine physician- with 15 years of experience in my area of expertise. I received my medical diploma (MD) from the University of Athens Medical School, in Athens Greece. I then pursued a residency in General Paediatrics, at The Unterberg Hospital for Children, in Long Branch, New Jersey, which is part of the St. Barnabas Health care system.

I trained at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), located in Philadelphia, PA, USA, which is the country’s first paediatric hospital in the United States. I was granted an O-1 visa by the US Citizenship and Immigration Services, which is given to individuals with extraordinary abilities in science. I worked as an attending in the Department of Paediatrics in the Division of Paediatric Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine at CHOP, and I was appointed as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Paediatrics at the Perelman School of Medicine, at the University of Pennsylvania (PENN) in Philadelphia, PA, USA. During my years at CHOP, I worked as the lead investigator in a double-blinded clinical control trial, looking into the relationship between sleep disordered breathing and cardiac complications, as well as, sleepiness in children with Trisomy 21, who were randomized to receive 4 months of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) vs. sham CPAP. I have several publications in peer reviewed journals, and I have been invited as a moderator in expert panels, as well as a guest speaker in national and in international conferences.

For the past 7 years, I have been working as a full time, paediatric pulmonologist and sleep medicine physician at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC) in Abu Dhabi, UAE, which is the country’s largest tertiary centre for complex paediatric patients. My scope of practice includes caring for patients with difficult to control asthma while I am the clinical lead of our Aerodigestive Program, which is a unique multidisciplinary clinic in the country, caring for patients with either congenital or acquired breathing, swallowing, feeding problems, as well as difficulties with growth and development. My main clinical focus is in caring for patients with sleep disordered breathing who require home mechanical ventilation. I have been appointed as core faculty in the Department of Paediatrics at SKMC, which is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). In addition, I was recently appointed as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Paediatrics at Khalifa University, Abu Dhabi, in the UAE.

I am a member of many professional societies, including the Emirates Thoracic Society (ETS), the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM), the American College of Chest Physicians (CHEST), while I was recently appointed as a member of the International Committee at the American Thoracic Society (ATS).

Since 2013, he have joined Rashid Hospital (800 patients) as a senior Respiratory Therapist, where we cover all trauma patients in Dubai. He is also responsible for Tracheostomy changes and cover the patients who required Respiratory Care Services.

Zaid Zoumot, MBBS, MSc, PhD, FRCP, is a Consultant Pulmonologist and Section Head of Pulmonology in the Respiratory Institute at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, and a Clinical Professor of Medicine at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine (CCLCM) of Case Western Reserve University. His sub-specialist fields of interest are Interventional Pulmonology, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Asthma, Sleep Medicine and Lung Cancer. Prior to joining Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, Dr. Zoumot worked as a Consultant Respiratory Physician at the Royal Brompton Hospital in London, UK.

Dr. Zoumot received his medical degree from the King's College London School of Medicine in London, UK. He completed his residency in General Internal Medicine in the London Deanery and then completed his fellowships in Respiratory Medicine and General Internal Medicine and later subspecialized in Interventional Pulmonology at the Royal Brompton Hospital in London, UK. He was awarded a PhD in Respiratory Medicine by Imperial College, London, UK for his thesis examining lung volume reduction for the treatment of severe emphysema.

Dr. Zoumot is extensively published with numerous original research studies as well as reviews and editorials in peer reviewed medical journals to his name, and he is currently an associate editor of European Respiratory Journal Open Research.
